President Tinubu Signs National Anti-Doping Bill into Law

 

National Sports Commission Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko has expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for signing the Anti-doping bill into law. This milestone marks a significant step towards ensuring fairness and integrity in Nigerian sports.

According to Mallam Dikko, President Tinubu’s swift signing of the bill reinforces his commitment to aligning Nigeria with global anti-doping standards and advancing sports development. The Chairman praised the President’s resolve, stating that his desire to get this done was evident from day one, and he directed all parties involved to expedite actions.

The newly enacted law domesticates the International Convention Against Doping in Sport and establishes an independent body responsible for implementing the World Anti-Doping Code and International Standards in Nigeria. Most importantly, this Act establishes the Nigeria Anti-doping Center, which excites Mallam Dikko.

Mallam Dikko emphasized that with this Act, Nigeria will become an anti-doping hub on the continent and the world, aligning with the RHINSE framework. He noted that President Tinubu’s approval for the construction and equipping of a world-class anti-doping laboratory in Nigeria will generate revenue and contribute to the sports economy.

The Director-General of the NSC, Hon. Bukola Olopade, assured that with the enactment of the NADO Act, the NSC will work closely with the organization to ensure Nigeria remains fully compliant with global anti-doping standards.
