The 2025 edition of the FCT Volleyball Challenge has officially kicked off at the Media Centre, Moshood Abiola International Stadium, Abuja. Organized by the Association of FCT Volleyball Clubs under the supervision of the FCT Volleyball Caretaker Committee, the event promises to be an exciting celebration of volleyball talent.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Chairman of the FCT Volleyball Caretaker Committee and Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), Commodore James Aliyu Pindar (Rtd), expressed delight over the commencement of the tournament. “Our vision for this year’s challenge is to select players across three categories — Under-17, Under-21, and Senior — who can represent the FCT as a state and the Federation at national and international volleyball competitions,” Commodore Pindar stated.
The key objectives of the tournament include fostering friendly relationships among volleyball players and enthusiasts within the FCT and surrounding areas, positively engaging youths, and identifying and developing talented players to compete at higher levels. Commodore Pindar also highlighted the importance of sports in youth engagement and development, particularly in light of the security challenges facing the country.
“This Volleyball Challenge is our contribution to National Youth Development and National Security,” he said. Reviewing the achievements of the inaugural edition, he revealed that 30 clubs participated in 2024, with 30 male and 21 female teams. This year, participation has increased to 33 clubsides, comprising 32 male teams and 22 female teams.
Matches will be held at both the indoor and outdoor courts of Package B, Moshood Abiola Stadium Complex. Commodore Pindar commended the LOC for their dedication in organizing the event and announced that trophies will be awarded to the overall winners. In addition, medals and cash prizes will be given to the top three teams (1st, 2nd, and 3rd place). Individual awards, including medals and cash prizes, will also be presented to 12 outstanding players — six male and six female.
All participating clubsides will receive certificates of participation. The 2025 FCT Volleyball Challenge aims not only to celebrate talent but also to contribute meaningfully to community building through sports.
